May 2022 Business of the Month: Farley’s Famous Hot Dogs

Located right down the street from Hurricane Middle School, adjacent to the new Iris & Indie Boutique, Farley’s Famous Hot Dogs is a staple in the Putnam County community. The restaurant was built in 1989, and was originally a Stewart’s Original Hot Dogs, but converted to Farley’s within just a couple of years. Buck Farley ran the restaurant for many years, but in January of 2017, the restaurant was sold to Leary Restaurant Properties.

Matt Leary now owns and operates the quaint hot-dog shop, making it a must-visit hidden treasure within the county. Leary says he purposely choose this location after his wife let him know it was available. The proximity to the Middle School, the traffic on Midland Trail, and the nostalgia that so many people in Hurricane felt toward Farley’s made it the perfect spot.

“It seemed like such a key part of many people’s childhood, and I felt we could continue that tradition for the next generation,” Leary told the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. “We really just wanted to start giving back to the community we had enjoyed living in.”

In the last two years and prior, Leary says he has seen this County rally around its beloved businesses and help carry them through tough times.

“Putnam County has a great love for local businesses, and they’re always ready to support and give feedback to businesses that invest in Putnam.  Most communities say they support local businesses, but Putnam County really loves their local businesses.” Leary said.

What Leary would like the community to know, though, is that he wholeheartedly listens to the customers.

You asked for more desserts, they brought funnel cake fries, slushies, shakes, ice cream, and more.

You wanted a better chicken sandwich, and they delivered.

You wanted more sides, they now have mac and cheese bites, chicken strips, fried pickles, and more.

And they’re not done yet! The future for Farley’s Famous Hot Dogs is bright. The restaurant and its fan base have grown tremendously over the past 5 years, which Leary credits entirely to the support from the community.

Farley’s Famous Hot Dogs is and will continue to be a hub for community activity, a pride point for Hurricane, something that young people will be proud to take their friends to, and a reason for “out-of-towners” to visit Putnam County!

Lastly, Leary said, “If I could tell the entire community anything, it would be “Thank you!”

Combining the modern theme of curbside delivery brought to us by COVID-19-with a traditional, old-school drive-in, Farley’s is a perfect spot for a contactless and delicious meal. Find out more about Farley’s Famous Hot Dogs on their website and/or Facebook page.
