Two years ago, Debbie Jones heard the voice of God tell her to take yoga to the community when she was involved in teacher training. Today Debbie owns Trinity Yoga and works to help people center their body, mind and spirit. Trinity Yoga encourages intimacy with God through the practice of Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is the most widely practiced yoga in America which concentrates on physical health and mental well-being.
People may tend to shy away from yoga because they are misinformed, thinking yoga is a religion tied to Hinduism and Buddhism. Yoga originated in the area of the world where those two religions were prominent, however, yoga itself is a practice of quieting the mind, stretching the body, connecting the breath with the body and learning to be still. God instructs: “Be still and know that I am God.”
Trinity Yoga is a small studio with small classes where individual attention can be given. Classes consist of Gentle Hatha and Chair Yoga and a five-week beginners series. Contemporary Christian music is played, and each class closes with the Lords Prayer. Also look for Power Flow and Yin Yoga classes in September.
Power Flow is for those who like more fast-paced yoga that work up a sweat. Yin Yoga is a class where each pose is held for three to five minutes to stretch the fascia. All classes are gentle and accessible for all bodies, ages, and levels.
Debbie made it clear that there’s only one rule at Trinity Yoga: “Honor Your Body.” You only do what YOUR body will allow YOU to do. Every BODY is different. Every day is different. It’s all about progress — not perfection!
There is a meditation workshop being planned for August 25. Trinity Yoga is across the street from Valley Park in the building with Hill Dental. More details on the event can be found on their Facebook page.
