Beverly Barnett is the studio owner of Dancing Unlimited in Hurricane, WV and is a proud member of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. Barnett started dancing when she was just three years old at Phyllis Ellison’s Studio of Dance and continued dancing until she went off to college. When returning back to the area in 1985 she had the opportunity to open up a studio where she had previously taken dance. When Ms. Ellison closed her Hurricane location Barnett then opened up a second location there in 1988 and Dancing Unlimited was born.
Beginning with just 75 students Dancing Unlimited has grown tremendously over the years, and now have over 300 students attending dance classes weekly. When asked what her proudest moment with the studio has been, Barnett said:
“Being able to share the love of dance with so many children and instill self- confidence, self- respect, leadership and the ability to connect with others. Which I believe will prove to be beneficial long after they leave the studio.”
With the mandatory closure of the studio due to COVID-19, Barnett wanted to make sure her dancers were still practicing at home. During this time, Barnett and her staff at Dancing Unlimited offered seven weeks of virtual dance classes over Zoom calls to make sure their dancers weren’t missing a beat. The studio re-opened on May 18, 2020 and dancers are still continuing to prepare for their recital this July.
Dancing Unlimited’s recital will be July 12 at the Valley Park. The recital will be divided into three parts and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
