Sheetz is a family-owned convenience store chain based in Altoona, Pennsylvania. For more than 60 years, our mission at Sheetz has been to meet the needs of customers on the go. Of course, things have changed over those 60+ years. Life is faster and busier, and customers expect us to be there when they need us most. One thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to our customers, our employees and the communities in which we operate.

Bob Sheetz founded Sheetz, Inc. in 1952 when he purchased one of his father’s five dairy stores located in Altoona, Pennsylvania. In 1961, Bob hired his brother Steve to work part-time at the store.

It was not until 1963 that the second store was opened under the name “Sheetz Kwik Shopper.” It took another five years to open the third store. In 1969, Steve joined Bob in the business as general manager. The brothers planned to expand at the rate of one store per year with a target of seven stores by 1972. In 1972, the brothers literally doubled the size of the company, expanding from seven to fourteen stores. One year later, Sheetz added gasoline pumps and introduced self-serve gasoline to Central Pennsylvania.

By 1983, Bob and Steve had opened 100 stores. The following year, Bob retired and handed over the leadership of the company to his trusted business partner and brother Steve.

In 1995, Stan Sheetz, Bob’s son, became president and Steve assumed the position of Chairman of the Board. Stan led the company through new periods of growth and innovation including introducing Sheetz fans to touchscreen ordering, Sheetz Bros. Coffee, Made-To-Go and Sheetz Bakery products, all while redefining the concept of getting quality food at a convenience store.

Sheetz opened its first location in West Virginia in August of 1985.  That is when the location in Berkeley Springs opened its doors. Today, Sheetz has more than 1,500 employees across the state – and 92 of those employees work in Putnam County!

Overall, Sheetz has more than 580 store locations in six states – including North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland – employing more than 18,500 people.  The company was founded in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and remains headquartered there.

The family owned and operated company is a proud supporter of the Special Olympics of West Virginia and of local food banks through its Made-to-Share food donation program, through which left-over ready-to-eat food is donated from stores on a weekly basis.  Sheetz also supports scholastic and community efforts through corporate donations and an employee operated charity, Sheetz for the Kidz, is responsible for brightening the holiday season for less fortunate children across the company’s footprint.  In December 2017, Sheetz for the Kidz supported 9,300 children – amounting to 16 kids from each Sheetz location.

Sheetz is the home to four store locations: two in Hurricane, along with locations in Poca and Scott Depot. Sheetz is proud to be a part of Putnam County!
