Business of the Month-Mission WV

Dec 1, 2023 | 0 comments

Since 1997, Mission West Virginia has been changing the lives of youth and families in an effort to promote positive futures for all kids in West Virginia by recruiting foster families, providing life skills education and creating community connections. Mission WV’s core areas of focus include preventing teen pregnancy, STI prevention and education, healthy relationship education, positive youth development, and parent and community education.

Mission WV has two programs they use to create stronger communities throughout the state. The first is the THINK program, which has been providing effective, evidence-based reproductive health education since 2007.  THINK has provided over 100,000 students and adults across 29 counties in West Virginia with pregnancy prevention education services since the start of the program.

The second is the FrameWorks program that finds families for children waiting in the foster care system. This program provides information and resources to help foster and/or adoptive parents become certified.  Mission WV is there for support to assist families as they take the first steps on their foster/adoptive journey. The efforts of Mission WV include recruiting families to foster/adopt, helping families to navigate the certification process and providing support to kinship caregivers.

The programs of Mission WV are effective independently, filling in the gaps in youth services, but it is when they team up with the community and schools that the planted seeds can really grow, flourish, and serve the youth to the fullest capacity.

Mission WV would love for you to stop by on Tuesday, December 19 for their Open House with refreshments, meet and greet with staff, and most importantly to judge their always impressive door decorating contest! This drop-in event offers a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in Mission WV and its programs to come and see what they do, ask questions, and meet the staff.  Mission WV is located at 168 Midland Trail, Suite 1, in Hurricane. If you see the H&R Block building and figure you must be at the wrong place, you’re not! Their entrance is in the back of the H&R Block building.
