Business of the Month-Scary Creek Paintball

Mar 31, 2026 | 0 comments

Jack and Denise Rose opened Scary Creek Paintball Games in 1992 and are so grateful for having been led to this wonderful piece of property in Scott Depot that has brought them decades of success and a lifetime of great memories.

When we asked Denise what her favorite memory is, she talked about how dejected the family was after 911 because Scary Creek Paintball Games (like all outdoor adventure game businesses) was sure that was the end for them; that those types of businesses wouldn’t be able to survive. But the Sunday after 911, Governor Bob Wise came knocking on their door and asked if he, his son, and several friends could play a game of paintball. Denise said that was a huge morale booster for them and gave them hope for the future of their business.

Denise said when the business opened, paintball games were not at all well known, and they enjoyed educating the public and watching the game become more accepted over time. They enjoy being able to give the people of #PutnamWV an experience they aren’t otherwise able to have in this area.

Denise says they “love being able to serve customers of all ages. We cater to 10/11 year-old first timers, and also to guys who have been coming here forever.” She says they’ve been in business so long, they’re getting the opportunity to enjoy the grandchildren of their original customers, which they absolutely love! One of their favorite things about the business is that each customer experience is unique.

What does the Rose family love about #PutnamWV? “When we came to the area in 1992, Putnam County was growing. We love our location because it draws customers from all over West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. We love living in this growing, prominent area.” Scary Creek Paintball has always been a family business and will continue to be, as Jack and Denise’s son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren are stepping in to be the next generation owners of this family-friendly, Putnam County gem.

April is Scary Creek Paintball’s busiest month, so if you’d like to schedule to play, give them a call today at 304-755-5973.
