Hey #PutnamWV! The weekend is here and there’s so much going on in Putnam County you won’t believe it!  Check it out.

This evening is going to be one packed full of fun at Hurricane City Park. It’s Food Truck Friday: Evening Edition AND Star Wars in the Park.  This evening from 6:00-9:00, bring the family and get some great food, ice cream, and be part of all the fun activities that will be happening at the park: which will also include giveaways, and shopping from some of Putnam County’s talented art and craft vendors who will be there selling their goods! Wear your Star Wars gear to fit in with the evening’s theme.

It’s the weekend many Putnam County residents wait for all summer long…that’s right! The Hurricane City-Wide Yard Sale is Saturday. Whether you’re looking for treasures galore or are trying to get rid of your own stuff, this is your big chance! Visit the City of Hurricane Facebook page, as there is a post where local residents have posted neighborhoods and addresses where their sales will be happening, and the types of things they’ll have for buyers. Happy shopping!

The Putnam Farmer’s Market will be in full force Saturday from 9:00am-1:00pm.  Come get some veggies, meat, eggs, baked goods and so much more.  See you there!

The Putnam County Master Gardeners are sharing their knowledge with us in a series of workshops and lectures about gardening this summer at the Main Branch of the Putnam County Library. This week, the library will be Cooking with Kathy, where we will learn the easiest way to shuck late-summer corn and use it to prepare a unique Mexican street corn dish. Yum! Want to get moving for a great cause this weekend? Sweet Julia Grace Foundation is hosting an inclusive fundraiser event Saturday designed to give everyone a chance to participate –whether on foot or using wheelchairs, adaptive bikes, gait trainers, scooters or strollers. Families & individuals, can walk, roll, or stroll on the flat, short & accessible route. This event will take place at Valley Park in Hurricane! Everyone can participate and kids will be celebrated as they cross the finish line in a big AND happy way! 5K registration begins at 8am, Walk-n-Roll begins at 10am, and Family Fun Day with face painting, ice cream, crafts, and so much more will run 11am-1pm! And just when you thought #PutnamWV couldn’t fit one more event into a weekend, you were mistaken! Poca River Fest is also happening, and is happening all weekend long! It kicks off this evening (Friday) with “Luau in the Plaza”, which will take place at Poca Plaza. Come dressed in your Best Luau attire! On Saturday, local businesses will be open, Poca River Hunting, Fishing, and Recreation Club will have all of their facilities open to the public (including the pool, gun and archery range, kids fishing ponds, corn hole, and many more activities). Appalachian Boarding Company will have SUP classes, gear training, and rentals available from 10:00am-noon. “Paddle da Poca” Open Water Paddle will run from 11:00am-6:00pm, and there’s so much more, including food and craft vendors, petting zoo, and the day ends with fireworks at 10pm. Sunday, August 11th, Poca River Fest is back at it from 10:00am-4:00pm. Enjoy “Gospel on the River” morning services 10:00am-12:00pm and gospel music from noon-2pm. Please bring your comfy chair!
