Since September is Hunger Action Month, we are highlighting what the fantastic team at Facing Hunger Foodbank works hard doing all year long! Facing Hunger Foodbank is on a mission to feed young people, elderly people, and everyone in between who struggle with food insecurity with mass distribution of food and groceries.
Where does the food come from? Facing Hunger provides nutritious canned, boxed, fresh, frozen, and prepared food recovered and secured from restaurants, supermarkets, food distributors, the USDA, farmers, wholesalers, sportsmen, and through food and fund drives. Through Facing Hunger Foodbank’s vast network of member agencies, efficient food sourcing practices, and program-focused approach to expense management, the organization provides a great return-on-investment to their donors and community.
How do donations work? Once the food is received at the distribution center, volunteers organize, pack, and distribute what ends up collectively being more than 14 million pounds of food; feeding 130,000 people annually. Once the food leaves the distribution center, the team delivers it to the various programs and 300 partner agencies throughout the 17 counties served in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. A $1 donation provides 9 meals to local families.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Facing Hunger Foodbank. As the demand for programs such as theirs continues to rise, volunteer help is more important than ever. Whether it be through individual volunteers, groups, or businesses, there is a place for everyone inspired to help! Interested in getting your business involved?
