Catch all the fun and entertainment this weekend as we celebrate Putnam County Homecoming, including live music, the parade, and crowning of the Queen! Visit the City of Winfield Facebook page for the full schedule.

Just in case you’re feeling inclined to run 100K this weekend, it’s not too late to sign up for the Annual Hurricane 100k Trail Run and Relay brought to you by the City of Hurricane, the Dumont Tri-County YMCA, and a host of local sponsors!  This race and relay are 62 glorious miles on the Meeks Mountain Trails in Hurricane and have a total prize purse of $10,000! The race is 100% single-track mountain running on 10.3-mile loops and is definitely for the heartiest of runners only. There is a playground nearby and loads of open trails for hiking, biking, running, and exploring in case you’d like to stay and hang out to support your runner, or just come out to watch others! All runners receive a zip-up sweatshirt jacket, a dry bag backpack, a handmade finisher award from Bear Wood, and various swag from sponsors. This event takes place Saturday.  Visit Meeks Mountain Trail Alliance on Facebook to learn more.

If running a 100K just isn’t your thing, there is plenty of fun to be had at the park otherwise! It’s family fun during the 2nd Annual Hurricane 100K! Come join Andy McKee as he takes you on a nature hike through Meeks Mountain to learn all about how to interact with nature in a hands-on, immersive experience for all ages that will be sure to invoke a love of all things outdoors! Please keep in mind this is a nature hike, and you will be walking approximately three miles on one of Meeks Mountain Trails. You will meet at the Big Red Barn at the Hurricane City Park, then will walk back to the shelter and take one of the many beautiful trails to learn about nature. The event begins at 2:00, so arrive a couple minutes early. Andy can’t wait to see you on the trail!

There are still several more weekends for the Putnam Farmer’s Market, which runs 9:00-1:00 every Saturday in the field beside the Exxon right next to Area 34. Stop in to support these local farmers and vendors on Saturday and make it a great weekend, Putnam County!
